چکیده

As the international division of labour becomes more entrenched, distance goods travel before they reach final consumer increases; at least this was case outbreak COVID-19 pandemic. International trade and cross-border cargo movements generate significant carbon emissions. Despite theoretical advances, empirical studies frequently draw contradictory conclusions influence on a country’s decarbonization efforts is inconclusive. This study examines emissions caused by countries’ transportation services global value chains. The input–output (IO) model 2015 multi-regional environmental table from UNCTAD-Eora database are employed. approach used to determine generated transport sector, along chains, in 190 countries. Environmentally extended IO analysis then reallocates responsibilities sector production consumption. identifies which sectors add or emit CO2. Our findings indicated that: (1) industry country may have detrimental effect environment while generating minimal economic benefit; (2) be tightly related chain operations, but does not create considerable impact. Given differences intensity, we propose only calculating production-based accounting (PBA) CO2 emissions, also consumption-based (CBA). If CBA lower than PBA carbon-leakage credit. top three countries with highest credit for were China, Russia USA. taken into consideration, some nations cease possess comparative advantage manufacturing trade.

Consumption-based accounting of CO2 emissions.

CO(2) emissions from the burning of fossil fuels are the primary cause of global warming. Much attention has been focused on the CO(2) directly emitted by each country, but relatively little attention has been paid to the amount of emissions associated with the consumption of goods and services in each country. Consumption-based accounting of CO(2) emissions differs from traditional, production...

The Impact of Petroleum Product Intensity, Gasoil consumption and GDP on CO2 Emissions in Transportation Sector of Iran

The present study, in addition to investigating the impacts of GDP and gasoil consumption as the biggest consumed petroleum product in Iranian transportation sector, by introducing petroleum product intensity, studied their effects on CO2 emission in this sector.  To evaluate the impact of the variables, we estimated an autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model between the years 1996 and 201...

CO2 emissions production-based accounting vs consumption: Insights from the WIOD databases

The Kyoto protocol has defined the accounting framework for industrial GHG emissions on production-based accounting. Since then, international negotiations of Climate Change did not make significant progress on new GHG emissions ceiling. For numerous non-Annex 1 countries, an accounting framework based on consumption would be advantageous and could help in international negotiations. Similarly,...

Transportation intensity, urbanization, economic growth, and CO2 emissions in the G-20 countries

This paper examines linkages among transportation intensity, the extent of urbanization, CO2 emissions, and economic growth. We use two measures of transportation intensity: (i) per-capita rates of utilization of air-passenger transport facilities and (ii) per-capita rates of utilization of air-freight transport facilities. By studying the G-20 countries over the period 1961e2012 and employing ...

China's transportation energy consumption and CO2 emissions from a global perspective

Rapidly growing energy demand from China's transportation sector in the last two decades have raised concerns over national energy security, local air pollution, and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and there is broad consensus that China's transportation sector will continue to grow in the coming decades. This paper explores the future development of China's transportation sector in terms of se...
